This project involved constructing a new tunnel and vestibule at Van Buren Street, adding one new train platform (720 LF), installing new stairs, elevators, and catenary structures. The tunnel and platforms are supported by micropiles with catenary supports on pile foundations. The stairs are supported on shallow foundations.

 

Scope of Services

• • Developed a geotechnical exploration plan per ARMEA guidelines
  • Drilled 8 borings (60–115 ft) and performed vane shear tests in soft clay
  • Provided shallow foundation design analysis, including bearing capacity and settlement
  • Provided design recommendations for micropile and drive pile  in a Structural Geotechnical report with construction recommendations
  • Coordinated with the City of Chicago DOB for construction permitting
