Sinkhole Investigation at the Eugene Sawyer Water Purification Plant (ESWPP) South Plant

Our team is conducting a comprehensive evaluation of the existing soil and groundwater conditions within the bulkheads at the City of Chicago’s ESWPP South Plant. This assessment is critical to understanding the cause and development of observed sinkholes and to provide reliable data for future remedial and structural planning. The evaluation combines field investigations, historical record reviews, and advanced geotechnical analysis to deliver actionable recommendations for the City.

Scope of Services

    • Conduct a site visit to observe and evaluate existing surface conditions and sinkhole development within the South Plant bulkhead area
    • Review historical documentation, including:
      • Drawings of the existing bulkhead and underground storage systems
      • Previous site investigations
      • Site utility layouts and drainage records
    • Install multiple temporary piezometers to allow for delayed monitoring of groundwater conditions over time
    • Deliver a comprehensive geotechnical report that includes:
      • Soil and groundwater profiles
      • Analysis of observed conditions
      • Design parameters to support the investigation and remediation of sinkholes
