<p style="line-height: 18px; font-size: 9pt;"
September 30, 2010 – GSG was hired by a leading construction management company to provide sampling and consultation following identification of glycol contamination in the potable water system of a suburban Chicago high school. Contamination of the supply had occured during construction improvements to the system. In response, GSG assembled a team of environmental professionals and an accredited water testing laboratory to test water throughout the 3-story building on an expedited schedule. More than 400 water samples are being collected and analyzed to ensure water is free of glycol contamination following a 48-hour system flush. GSG’s services will be used to demonstrate that the water supply system is safe and free of glycol contaminants.

<p style="line-height: 18px; font-size: 9pt;"
December 16, 2010 – GSG has been selected to conduct microbial surveys in the pharmacy of a well-known Chicago hospital. The testing includes sampling for airborne and surface microorganisms in the areas where drugs are handled and stored for sensitive, immunodeficient patients. Initial sampling will be conducted to determine background levels of bacteria in the pharmacy area with subsequent periodic monitoring. We understand the significance of “hospital acquired infection” and are continuing our efforts to support medical facilities in combating this growing problem in many health care institutions.

<p style="line-height: 18px; font-size: 9pt;"
December 10, 2010 – GSG has been selected to perform a study to determine indoor exposure levels of methacrylate in the dental labs at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois. Poly(methyl methacrylate) is extensively used in the production of dentures and a large majority of white dental filling materials (i.e. composites) have PMMA as their main organic component. As part of the study designed by GSG, samples are being collected at various locations in the facility and analyzed per National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Method 2537 at the AIHA accredited laboratory. GSG is proud to support the health and well-being of our military veterans as well as their caregivers.

Our Comprehensive Site Investigation Report (CSIR) and Remedial Action Plan (RAP) has been submitted to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency for review and approval. Remedial corrective actions are planned to commence in the Spring 2011. Once complete, the approximate 0.84 acre site will be suitable for the safe cultivation of produce aiding in the redevelopment of the West Englewood neighborhood. Through this project, GSG continues our nearly 20 year history with the City of Chicago Department of Environment in managing the balance between urban development and environmental quality.
